Many patients want a treatment that significantly improves their skin’s health and appearance while enhancing their natural beauty. At Dr. Chow’s Rejuvenation Practice, we use the cutting-edge HALO™ laser by Sciton® to treat a variety of skin concerns, including signs of aging, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, loose skin, and even unwanted veins on the face and body.
What Is Halo™ Laser Skin Resurfacing?
HALO™ is the first and only hybrid fractional laser that combines both ablative and non-ablative wavelengths. This process stimulates the natural production of collagen, resulting in smoother, firmer, and more radiant skin over time.
How It Works
- Non-ablative laser: Heats collagen deep in the skin to tighten it and improve texture
- Ablative laser: Removes the top layer of skin to exfoliate dead skin cells
This dual-action technique maximizes the benefits of the treatment while keeping downtime (and treatment time) short!
What Can HALO™ Treat?
Our Sciton laser system allows us to offer laser skin rejuvenation and skin tightening for men and women of all ages as well as adolescents, addressing:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Signs of aging
- Sun damage and melasma
- Acne scars
- Uneven skin tone and texture
- Enlarged pores
- Age spots and liver spots
- Enlarged oil glands on the nose
- Appearance of veins on the face and body
Treatments can be personalized to meet your skin’s unique needs, whether you’re looking for preventative measures or targeting specific aging issues.

Pre Treatment

- Skin types IV-VI or melasma patients may be asked to pre-treat their skin with 4% hydroquinone or other melanin suppressant
- Apply thin layer to skin at nighttime only for 4 weeks
2 weeks before treatment:
- Avoid sun exposure, sunless tanning creams or sprays
1 week before treatment:
- Avoid any irritants to your skin including waxing, dermaplaning, exfoliating, superficial chemical peels, Retin-A, retinol, benzoyl peroxide, glycolic/salicyclic acids/ astringents, and Vitamin C.

Post Treatment
- Cleanse the skin twice per day with SkinCeuticals Soothing Cleanser and lukewarm water beginning the morning after treatment. Use your hands to gently apply the cleanser and water and finish by patting dry with a soft cloth. DO NOT rub, scrub, exfoliate or use a skincare brush in the treated area(s). Doing so can result in scarring and pigmentation issues.
- Apply SkinCeuticals RGN-6 Serum 1-2 pumps twice a day and SkinCeuticals or Obagi Moisturizer as needed to keep skin comfortable and hydrated.
- Melasma patients or darker skin types may be asked to apply 4% hydroquinone after cleansing post night five. SkinCeuticals RGN-6 and SkinCeuticals or Obagi Moisturizer may be applied on top.
- Sunscreen is a MUST after 24 hours! Apply SPF 30+ prior to applying makeup or in place of makeup. Be sure to re-apply every 2 hours.
- Continue to take your anti-viral medication as directed until finished (if prescribed by Provider).

Tips Post Treatment
- Post treatment discomfort may be relieved with OTC pain relievers such as Tylenol, Advil, or Motrin
- Swelling is common and expected and can increase for the first few days after treatment. You may choose to sleep elevated or in an upright position for the first few nights to help alleviate the swelling. Cool compresses can also help discomfort.
- Redness is normal and expected. Redness can be persistent depending on the aggressiveness of the treatment but tends to resolve within 7-10 days.
- Itching is a normal side effect and may be experienced during the healing phase. DO NOT scratch the treated area(s) as scarring and pigmentation issues can occur. OTC antihistamines such as Claritin, Zyrtec, or Xyzal are non-drowsy and may be taken during the day. OTC Benadryl, which may cause drowsiness, can be taken at night to relieve itching.
- On post day 2 or 3 you may notice dark spots appearing on the treated skin. These bronzed, crusted areas are called Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris (MENDS). DO NOT scratch or scrub off these crusted areas. This part of the healing process where treated tissue is working its way out of the body and new skin is being regenerated. This process can take 7-10 days for the face and up to 2 weeks for the body.
- Avoid sun exposure post treatment for 4 weeks. If direct sun exposure is necessary, wear a hat and clothing that covers the area(s). If the treated area(s) are exposed to sun (direct or indirect), blistering, scarring, hyperpigmentation and/or hypopigmentation may occur.
Treatment Process: What to Expect
Consultation
The process begins with a comprehensive consultation where a qualified specialist assesses your skin type, concerns, and medical history to determine if laser resurfacing is appropriate for you.
Preparation
Before the procedure, you may be advised to avoid certain medications or skincare products that can affect healing. Sun exposure should also be minimized to reduce the risk of complications.
Procedure
Before the procedure, your skin is cleansed and a topical anesthetic may be applied to enhance comfort. The HALO™ laser is then used to deliver targeted energy to the affected areas, removing damaged skin layers and stimulating collagen production. You may experience a warming sensation as the laser is applied to the skin.
The treatment typically lasts 30 minutes to two hours, depending on the size and number of areas being addressed.
Recovery & Aftercare
Recovery varies depending on the intensity of the treatment. Most clients will need 3-7 days to heal. Post-treatment, the skin may appear red and feel similar to a mild sunburn, which subsides over a few days.
- Keep the Skin Clean: Gently cleanse the treated area to prevent infection.
- Moisturize Regularly: Use recommended products to keep the skin hydrated.
- Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect the skin with broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily.
- Avoid Harsh Products: Stay away from scrubs, exfoliants, or active ingredients like retinoids or acids until your skin has fully healed.
- Follow Medical Advice: Adhere to all post-procedure instructions provided by your healthcare provider.
When Will I See Results?
Initial improvements can be seen once the skin heals, typically within one to two weeks. However, collagen remodeling continues for several months, leading to progressive enhancements in skin texture and appearance over time. HALO® can be combined with other treatments, like BBL, to speed up the process of removing unwanted pigment and achieve even more dramatic results.
